Volunteer Staff

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF POSITIONS *** GET A STAFF BADGE ***

The FringeNYC staff is comprised almost entirely of volunteers. Volunteer staff people do everything, and get a groovy ALL ACCESS pass for FringeNYC and a fancy-shmancy title! Below is a list of sample staff positions. HOWEVER, if you don’t see something that suits you listed below, just let us know! Being a FringeNYC staff person is an EXCELLENT way to gain ACTUAL EXPERIENCE, ON-THE-JOB TRAINING, and REAL SKILLS. Don't spend all summer WATCHING someone make something happen….MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!!

The first step to joining the FringeNYC Staff is to attend a NEWBIE MEETING. Newbie meetings are an orientation to joining the staff, and a place to hear about the history of the festival and the departments within FringeNYC.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ON NEWBIE MEETINGS.

After attending a NEWBIE meeting, you'll be invited to join us at a Tuesday evening STAFF meeting, where we meet by department.

Sample STAFF POSITIONS:

ASST. VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS – ASSIST ALL OF US COORDINATING VOLUNTEERS! Volunteer Coordinators ensure that there are enough volunteers at FringeNYC, and that they are where they are needed! During the festival they are responsible for scheduling volunteers, supervising the distribution of fliers, e-mailing, phone calling, and meeting a lot of people in a short period of time! It's a great way to become familiar with hundreds of theatre companies from around the world. Assistant Volunteer Coordinators cover the Volunteer desk at FringeCENTRAL during the festival, and there are four positions available. This year we'll be utilizing our new web-based volunteer scheduling database to coordinate 1000+ registered volunteers, so it promises to be an exciting and efficient year!

FringeCENTRAL STAFF – SELL TICKETS AT FringeCENTRAL! With the supportive guidance of the FringeCENTRAL MANAGERS, FringeCENTRAL staff will assist customers who are purchasing tickets at FringeCENTRAL, the central box office of the festival. FringeCENTRAL is where we sell advance tickets, using an online ticketing service. This year, FringeCENTRAL will likely be near Washington Square Park, so, like last year, we expect FringeCENTRAL to do a booming business. We need your smiling face! If you’ve ever purchased anything on the web, you can sell tickets at FringeCENTRAL.

ASST. TICKETING MANAGERS – ASSIST IN THE EVENINGS AT FringeCENTRAL! Asst. ticketing managers help the Ticketing Managers prepare and fulfill ticket orders for the festival. Now completely computerized, there is much less manual labor involved in this task. . . and most of the preparation of the next day's performance envelopes is done in a festive atmosphere late at night. This is a perfect way for someone with a "day-job" to pitch in at FringeNYC. We also need a couple of day-time people to check-out performance envelopes to the Box Office Managers at our 1pm daily roll call meetings. All of this happens at FringeCENTRAL.

SPECIAL EVENTS DEPARTMENT - The Special Events department of FringeNYC has several openings!

FringeAL FRESCO - Pod Coordinators: help organize and oversee the activities in one (1) of the three (3) activity pods ( Union Square, West Village, and Downtown). Barkers: Introduce participants for “Previews in the Park” and entertain Audiences while participants prepare.

FringeART - Department Head: create, organize, and oversee FringeNYC’s visual arts expression.

FringeJR - Asst. Directors: We need some Fringe JR Assistants to help with setting up the Fort FringeJR space, coordinating among our FringeJR shows, and assisting with the distribution of the FringeJR NEWSFLASH.

FringeU – Asst. Directors: help organize and oversee our panels and workshops.

Closing Night Party - Coordinator: help organize and oversee the party, including sound and decoration.

General - Support Staff: be onsite during events to help load, setup, and give information to audience during the event.

ASST. EDITORS – FringeNYC PROPAGANDA – ASSIST IN PUTTING TOGETHER THE PAPER! We need your eyes! This year we will publish seven issues of FringeNYC Propaganda, the newspaper of FringeNYC. …that’s lots of words…lots of potential for typos and “creative” use of the English language! If you’re an editor or proofer, we need you! This is work that can be done primarily by email and is a great way for someone with a “day-job” to help out. Editors will be responsible for particular feature stories and columns that are a regular part of FringeNYC Propaganda. We are also looking for photographers, reporters, and cartoonists!

ASST. COMPTROLLERS – ASSIST ON YOUR OWN TIME! Asst. Comptrollers will help the Comptroller enter all of the ticket sales information into our database. If you’re a data-entry wiz, this is the job for you. General accounting skills are a plus. Knowledge of or familiarity with Access database software is also great, but it's a pretty friendly program.

MANY, MANY MORE POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE!!!

THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU ON THE FringeNYC STAFF! We need folks with marketing, promotions, development, visual arts, sign making, database, accounting, merchandising, bartering, and people skills. Please join us and help make the biggest multi-arts festival in North America happen!

TO JOIN IN ANY OF THE ABOVE, you’ll need to attend a NEWBIE meeting.
